My Journal +

Here you will find an assortment of sketches, photos, and inspiration that helps me in the process of completing my paintings. As an artist finding inspiration and ideas for the next painting is a constant journey. Ideas can evolve from going on an outdoor adventure or simply walking to the mailbox. These experiences, along with my dedication to art, are the starting points for my paintings. Please look through this portion of my site to get an idea of the process involved in finishing one of my pieces.

My Inspiration & Photographs

This is where it all begins, laying the foundation for my paintings by doing countless hours of research and taking thousands of photographs. Here are a few examples of photographs I took while studing waterfowl at Sylvan-Heights. Click through the images below.

Field Notes, Sketches & Progress

Here are a few images from the pages of my field journal along with some concept sketches. This is where I work on the structure and finalize the details of my paintings. I take quick sketches in the field and photos for reference (lighting, color, and fine detail) then 'fine tune' my concept when I get in the studio. I am currently going through my sketch books for some of my favorites, so check back for some updated images. I also will be adding a 'paintings in progress' section in the near future.
